Brief Overview

Meat and bone meal (MBM) is one of potential by-product from meat industry. It produced by rendering the separate or whole body unsold products from slaughterhouse operations. MBM is commonly product from cattle, and swine and always combined raw material more than one species.
It has contain high protein, phosphor, and an important pathway for recycling of Nitrogen and Phosphor. It commonly used for feed ingredients for monogastric, and also available as organic fertilizer. Bone in Meat bone meal is an excellent source for mineral such as Calcium, and Phosphor and relatively low in fat.
Suggested Uses: An excellent source of protein (amino acids) and minerals for use in poultry feed, swine feed, pet food, or as an organic fertilizer.

Manufacturing process

MBM is obtained by process of separating (rendering apart) the fat and protein-rich material contained in animal tissues when they are heated to a temperature where the cellular structure is degraded and the fats are released (Woodgate & Van der Veen, 2004).
The definition of 'rendering' could equally be applied to the cooking of meat, it is uniquely applied to the heat processing of ABP. In Europe, ABP are defined as whole animals (e.g., fallen stock) or parts of animals raised for human food production that humans choose not to eat.

Pet Food:
Meat and bone meal (MBM) is a product of the rendering industry. It is
typically about 48–52% protein, 33–35% ash, 8–12% fat, and 4–7%
water. It is primarily used in the formulation of animal feed to improve
the amino acid profile of the feed.
